I couldn’t see any use for the full floating suspension and I need to upgrade the original 2002 Norco Fireball. The Norco is off to a good home, I think BMW will be happy to extend the family once again.
Comments are off for this postHow I found out who Cadel was. Well back in 1998 I knew nothing about mountain biking but was keen to pick up a sport after having an arthroscopy on my right knee and the surgeon said I could now do two sports “Cycling & Swimming”. As I can’t stand swimming I decided a Mountain Bike was for me. Off to the local bike shop at the time to pickup a bike. I walked away with an Apollo worth a grand total of AUS$400. I soon learned that this bike with its sad cheap components was not built to be ridden up the road let alone in the Australian bushland. I picked up a copy of a mountain bike magazine which had the newly crowned UCI Mountain Bike World Cup champion. Mr Cadel Evans was on the cover riding none other than a Cannondale. Well after about my 3rd Apollo mission in the bush I decided to scrap the Apollo and get myself a Cannondale, If it was good enough for Cadel to win the “UCI Mountain Bike World Cup” It was good enough for me to launch my Mountain Bike career. I’ve followed Cadel ever since, I eventually gave up on the mountain biking and got onto a road bike (too old for riding in the bush these days).
Bike Fit.
People, if you roll up to a bike shop or a cycling coach and they pull out the old “bikefitkit” measurement tools and pump the figures into the software don’t expect this to the natural fit for you. No two human bodies are the same, due to this simple fact you should seek the best solution to a bike fit. Being fitted correctly to your bike is a science not a software package that works out basic formulas and spits out a solution for your required position. In my experience I’d be asking a number of questions and reading as much information as you can before working on the bike fit. From personal experience as a tall rider I’ve found seeing my physiotherapist and ex-pro (a real pro with proof and experience) cyclist Leon Vogels was the answer. With one look and a proper anatomic assessment of my position I was putting the power with less effort.
Comments are off for this postIt just aint coaching.
This is “NOT” Coaching. Lets see, you’ve been training hard for months to prepare for a race, as you’re fitness levels improve and the base has been set in stone, the time comes to work on strength, speed or power and a “coach” tells you to add 5-15% of your body weight into a backpack and train on the bike. As this is the year of 2007 and not 1958 (before the wall came down) Eastern Bloke training regime I’d prefer to see a scientific approach to training. Why not get in the gym and do a structured strength weights program. Attempt to read a modern training manual, if the athlete needs rest or to “taper” the athlete should know what’s right for then in the long run. It’s you’re body so listen to it! Bricks and Backpacks are “No School” not “Old School”.
